Eka Pada Urdhva Dhanurasana // One Legged Wheel Pose

We cross many bridges in life, fix many punctures in tyres, face many obstacles where we tackle things as though it’s a balancing act, and an act of bending. We often wonder if we are even capable of pushing through the obstacles, and yet despite the internal dialogue going on, one thing will always remain consistent, the wheels keep on rolling down that crazy old path we call life.

Eka Pada Urdhva Dhanurasana

Wheel pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana or Chakrasana) is an advanced back bend, and one that can greatly assist in shifting perspective and mood. The perspective side is easy to see, you are literally upside down seeing the world in a new light. But you are also tapping into your own strength, and support within the body. As for mood, there is nothing like the blood rushing to your head to shake you up.

Adding the challenge of raising one leg to your wheel pose creates asymmetry within the body. It's an added challenge both mentally, and physically, as you contemplate yet a different perspective.

Wheel is great for anyone who sits at a desk a lot, counteracting the hunching of your shoulders and relieving lower back pain. It can also aid the nervous system, stretch out the lungs, loosen tight hips and Strengthen legs, buttocks, abdomen and spine, wrists and arms.
