What is Nirvana Movement?

Updated: Sep 24, 2018

Nirvana Movement isn't just about yoga. It isn't about preaching a lifestyle, or forcing opinions on to others. It's simply to share something I love, my thoughts, and importantly the amazing things I have learnt through the help of others, with anyone willing to have a listen.

Nirvana is a place of perfect happiness and peace, something like heaven. In both Buddhism and Hinduism, nirvana is the highest state that someone can attain or reach, it is a state of enlightenment, a state where a person's suffering can go away.

The Unalome symbol is a buddhist symbol which can come in many variations. The most common one is pictured here in the tattoo I got to symbolise my journey in India.

It depicts the path to enlightenment (nirvana). The spirals symbolise all the twists and turns, the struggles we face in life, leading to the straight lines, meaning the moment when you finally reach peace or enlightenment. The dot at the end represent death, or the moment we fade to nothing. This seems morbid, but the whole symbol is the full journey, finding peace and joy finally.

This meaning is obviously very large scale, and while it is something beautiful to aspire to in life, many monks spend their entire lives aiming towards this, but it can't be so commonly said a true sense of nirvana is achieved.

In a more daily sense, we can aim to achieve true happiness, and persevere with our journeys (whatever they may be) by seeing the light (or dot!) at the end of the tunnel. Considering this symbol could make a great reminder to consider your actions and learn from them.

I believe movement doesn't have to just be exercise. It is its own form of meditation, freedom of expression, on top of doing amazing things for your physical and mental health.

You can reach a sense of nirvana with small things in this crazy world.
